Do you have a problem?

- On which system the problem occured?
- What you have done?
- What was expected?
- What happened instead?

How do I change my password?
You may change your password on every Unix machine in the lab with the passwd command or here any time.
What are the password requirements?
Your password must meet the following requirements:
- Passwords must not contain your user’s entire Account Name or entire Full Name. Both checks are not case sensitive.
- Passwords must have a minimum length of eight (8) characters.
- Passwords must contain characters from three (3) of the following five categories:
- Uppercase characters of European languages (A through Z, with diacritic marks, Greek and Cyrillic characters)
- Lowercase characters of European languages (a through z, sharp-s, with diacritic marks, Greek and Cyrillic characters)
- Base 10 digits (0 through 9)
- Nonalphanumeric characters: ~!@#$%^&*_-+=`|\(){}[]:;“'<>,.?/
- Any Unicode character that is categorized as an alphabetic character but is not uppercase or lowercase. This includes Unicode characters from Asian languages.
How can I install software?¶
If you have granted sudo rights to a VM, you can install the software of your choice. Otherwise, you have to prepare a docker container including your needed software. How can I test the connection to the FSOC Lab infrastructure?¶
To test your account, please log in via ssh to:
playground.fsoc.hpi.uni-potsdam.de
There you will also find your home directory /home/<username>, which is also available on other machines. You will also have the opportunity to access your home directory outside of your reservation slots for a specific machine. Please be aware that this access is not suitable for executing experiments. How can I request exclusive access / reserve resources?¶
You can request exclusive access to one of our servers. Please send an email to futuresoc-lab@hpi.de at least two weeks before you want to run your experiments and include the following information:
Required resource(s)
Planned start date and duration of use
Planned duration of the project
Can I get root access on the assigned resource?¶
In general no. If you have special requirements, please contact us.
I am not sure how to connect to the assigned machine.¶
You have to connect to the VPN first, then log in to the playground, and then ssh to the assigned resource.
Where can I store big data?¶
Up to 20 GB can be stored permanently in your home directory. Short term (< 2 months) space up to 100 GiB. If you need more, please contact us.
How can colleagues from my project access the resources?¶
For other project members you can request additional user accounts. Please do so via the FSOC Portal.
